What Is the 4th Annual Hip Hop Cultural Summit?
The Delaware Art Museum launched this event back in 2023 to mark hip hop’s 50th anniversary. It grew into an annual tradition, presented in partnership with AllHipHop and Guerrilla Republik, alongside the Stop the Violence Coalition. Each year the summit treats hip hop the way it should be treated: as a real art form with a real history, not just a soundtrack.
Past summits have brought out names like Flavor Flav and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels. This year’s headline guest is Darryl “Cornbread” McCray, the man widely credited as the original modern graffiti writer. His work anchors a new exhibit called “Walls of Resistance: Art as Activism,” alongside pieces from 17 other graffiti artists.
Art As Activism: What Is On the Schedule
This year’s theme is Art As Activism, and the lineup backs it up. Expect panel discussions, a fireside chat with AllHipHop Co-Founder Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur, DJ sets from DJ SoulBuck and DJ Supreme, an MC battle, and a Live! Music Brunch hosted by Roxy Romeo. Cornbread himself sits on a panel to talk about turning a spray can into a civil rights tool.
