Farm to Community Program Becomes Permanent Delaware Law

DOVER, Del. — A program that connects Delaware farmers with food pantries and senior centers across the state is now permanent law.

Gov. Meyer signed Senate Bill 53 this month, formally establishing the Delaware Farm to Community Program after it lost its original federal funding in 2025 and was kept alive with state dollars.

The program currently connects 33 farmers supplying more than 100 food varieties to nine community outlets and 113 distribution sites across all three Delaware counties. It has generated $2.3 million in local food purchases so far, at no cost to the families and organizations receiving the food.

“Delaware-grown food strengthens our economy and the health of our community,” Meyer said. State Sen. Gerald Hocker called it “a practical, results-driven approach that benefits both producers and consumers.”

Why it matters: the program protects Delaware farmers with a predictable local market while giving food-insecure families and seniors reliable access to fresh, locally grown food.
